i've thought a lot about this and retaining, not onboarding, is the issue. 

farcaster doesn't provide a compelling enough chick experience for most boys club members to choose to spend time here over twitter. the same reason why no one stays at a club if it isn't playing bangers or if the vibes aren't high.

btw my birthday is late December, if I could get to 1,000 followers by then it would be so cool

nothing quite gets me going like seeing a github link on twitter.

Because farcaster is lacking “real” tech builders. Hot but honest.
I posted gh links before, got zero traction. Now I post evm memes.

not really, its like saying that farcaster will be less meaningful as we get to millions of users

attestations always have an attester — the reputation of the attester will matter, even if the median attestation will be spam

also you have an option to confirm an attestation, while leaving the spam unconfirmed

personally i wouldnt (i dont already on twitter)

also farcaster is gated right now so the content is generally  already high signal

maybe in the future to some defi builders to be able to chat to them

but this seems like a direction for social platforms and a needed feature option to remain competitive

I think farcaster lacks the last two to a good degree. 

There are interesting conversations but not conversations about everything.

I originally started perceiving this in jim mckelveys book, he talks about avoiding Twitter due to competitive instincts. when I joined farcaster I perceived everyone as competition and the game was followers or something.

In my experience, the issue with decentralized X (Twitter)-like platforms is that they eventually just devolve ￼into X hate forums.

This degrades the collective content quality to the point of regular users losing interest and leaving (probably going back to X).

Doesn’t look like farcaster has this problem atm.

how you manage your time? I have never felt like you both guys are away from farcaster even a single day?

I don't understand the question, but something like hub-network as a service would make it possible for others to run a hub in that network, which is not possible with just centralized apis

i am mainly concern about the value add of running a hub in addition to making the network more decentralized

right Im not suggesting hub as a service tho, this is a whole duplicate farcaster stack as a service running a separate network

I know there is a love of degen, but I’d hope there’d be a Regen vibe. Web3 wont get to adoption if it’s just counter culture Ponzi schemes. 

To this end tho… farcaster is on track. I think it’s a good sign to say farcaster is too polite. If I want combative plenty of places to go, not so for the opposite.

Been feeling increasingly less welcome here, like an outsider or not one of the cool kids, now this new badge seems designed to exclude the 90% of users that aren’t power users with large followings

oh no, this really bums me out. what has made you feel unwelcome or like an outsider? what would you like to see more of?

i joined farcaster not knowing a soul and without an extensive web3 network (or much experience), and now feel like it is home. it is important to me that others feel embraced as much as i did.

Obvious in retrospect mistakes for Farcaster so far:

1. Starting with desktop app vs. mobile (I love desktop like a child but mobile engagement and retention significantly better)

2. Focusing early onboarding to people with >10K Twitter followers. Virtually all churned.
